SHL Division Five

Sandridge 215-3 beat Old Albanian II 213-8 by 7 wickets

SANDRIDGE came out on top in this local derby thanks to a superb 85* from David Gower.

Sandridge skipper John Murphy won the toss and put OA into bat.

Old Albanian on a good batting track started brightly with openers Scott (85) and Dunklin (25) playing aggressively.

When the first wicket went down OA skipper Burman (50) came in and also continued in the same vein.

Sandridge were struggling to make inroads, until Adam Temple (4-47) came on and when Burman was magnificently caught in the deep by Pete Camm the tide began to turn.

Catches began to stick and, backed up by John Murphy (3-68), Sandridge were relieved to restrict the opposition to 213-8.

In reply Sandridge's consistent openers Adam Temple (32) and Peter Camm (40) got the home side off to a flying start, but when Temple went, it was then the turn of second team player Gower, playing his first league game of the season, to put OA to the sword.

The brilliant left hander, playing like his namesake, struck a wonderful 85 not out, displaying attacking shots all around the ground, and OA's bowling attack had no answer with Sandridge comfortably winning in the 38th over.
