ALEX Bailey has rejoined St Albans City as boss Steve Castle continues to strengthen his depleted squad.

The former Arsenal trainee spent three seasons at Chesterfield before moving to Clarence Park in the summer but the right back only made nine appearances before he was released due to budget restraints a decision that Castle says was a difficult one to make.

He said: "I was really at pains to let him go it was just a financial thing. Things have been released just that little bit more financially and I think he'll be invaluable from now until the end of the season."

Castle moved to re-sign Bailey after seeing his squad hit by injuries and the defender slotted in seamlessly during Saturday's 5-0 win at Bognor despite playing at left back.

"Hassan Sulaiman is playing excellently at right back and I wasn't going to change it but Scott [Cousins] had a bout of food poisoning and who better to come in than someone like Alex Bailey? He looks like he's never been away. I think he's got a little bit of a point to prove to so that adds a nice little sharp edge to his game as well.
