Danny Green has been given his opportunity to re-stake his claim for a starting role with St Albans City.
The 24-year-old has been on dual registration with Hitchin Town since the end of November but was recalled for a behind-closed-doors friendly with a view to bringing him back in place of Charlie Gorman while he serves a three-game suspension for a red card against Bath City.
Green started the season as the Saints’ first choice defensive midfielder but his role diminished when Gorman arrived from Welling on loan, and even more so when the move was made permanent.
At the time of Gorman’s signing, joint manager James Gray admitted that Green would have to “bide his time or show up in a game that he goes in ahead of Charlie.”
He now has that chance.
