Strider Tom Crouch stayed ahead of all other competitors, and Hurricane Bertha, to remain dry and win the Bearbrook 10k at Weston Turville on Sunday.
Even so the conditions were wet and windy for the 385 finishers. Crouch (33.34) led home the men’s team of Steve Buckle, Graham Smith, who was first vet 40, and Nairn McWilliams, which came first overall.
The first five St Albans women were Claire Kremer (6th female), Wendy Walsh (8th), Zoe Lowe (12th and 1st vet 45 female), Helen Cartlidge (13th) and Mercedes Getino (23rd). The women also took top spot and Deirdre Heydecker was also the first vet 55 woman.
On the other side of the world, Striders Doug Hobson and Claire Simm took part in the Melbourne Parkrun. Hobson came 16th in 19mins 31 secs and Simm finished in 24mins 53secs in Melbourne.
