THREE was definitely the lucky number for Scott Cousins on Saturday.

The defender was named as captain, in the absence of Ben Martin, helped City to their third clean sheet in a row and to top it all off was named Man of the Match.

With defender Martin ruled out on the morning of the game, Steve Castle had to reshuffle his pack with Cousins returning to the side after missing the win at Bognor Regis with a bout of food poisoning alongside James Quilter.

Speaking to The Herts Advertiser after the 0-0 draw with Team Bath Cousins said: "They say good luck comes in threes! I enjoyed it, I've played centre half before but not in a back four, I've played centre half in a back three and played sweeper which wasn't much difference because I had Quilts [James Quilter] alongside me going and attacking everything so I could just concentrate on organising the back four and making sure I was covering Quilts all the time."

Normally a left back, Cousins isn't renowned for his heading ability but that wasn't the case on Saturday.

"Don't tell my dad! It's the only game he's missed and when I go back and tell him I've headed a few there is no way on earth he is going to believe me!"

Steve Castle said in his post match interview that the pitch was hard to play on and Cousins echoes those thoughts saying that the players were finding it hard to trust their footing.

"They've [Team Bath] had a good season and are just outside the playoffs. I think our league position is a bit false we should be a bit higher up the table. As you've seen we've matched them for the whole 90 minutes and probably had the better chances on what was a difficult pitch especially getting into the final third where it was quite hard to trust your footing when trying to take chances."

City host league leaders AFC Wimbledon tonight [Tuesday] and Cousins, a coach at the David Beckham Academy, says it's a game that the players are relishing.

"That's the big one. Tom Davis is coming back to the club and I'm sure there are a few boys wanting to give him a good welcome and a couple of kicks. It's another big game and the boys are really looking forward to it. They'll look after themselves and they'll be ready to go again on Tuesday.
