St Albans City joint manager James Gray may reconsider his stance to enter the season without a back-up goalkeeper after Tom Coulton returned on Tuesday.

The Saints released Coulton at the end of the season so he could move to a club where he would be first choice goalkeeper.

He joined SSML Premier Division side Cockfosters, but Gray thinks his former charge is too good for that level.

“Maybe we’ll sign him as cover for [Joe Welch] and dual register him to a better standard. That way, at least he’s there as a back-up should anything happen to Welchy,” he said.

Coutlon played 45 minutes against a Crystal Palace XI and kept a clean sheet.
