CITY of St Albans swimming club is welcoming a new member to its coaching team with the appointment of Kirsty Armstrong, a keen competitive swimmer and experienced assistant coach.

Previously an assistant coach at Louth Dolphins, Armstrong has a BSc in Sports and Exercise Science and an MSc in Exercise Physiology. A Level Two teacher, she trained with Loughborough Universities’ High Performance Squad for five years with coach Ian Armiger.

Her biggest achievements include making the finals of the 200 Butterfly at Olympic Trials in June 2012, World Championship Trials in June 2011 and Commonwealth Games Trials in March 2010. She was also part of the team that broke the British Club Record for the 4x100 Medley Relay in August 2009.

CoStA head coach, Stewart Melton, said: “We’re delighted to welcome a coach with this depth of competitive swimming knowledge and coaching experience and we look forward to seeing Kirsty in action.”
