City of St Albans Swimming Club’s A team started its defence of the Peanuts League title with second place in round one.

Competing against clubs from Watford, Harpenden, Hemel Hempstead, Potters Bar and Hertford, CoStA swimmers won 20 of the 49 events to clinch second, one point behind winners Watford.

There were particularly good results in the relay races. The nine-year-olds, swimming in the league for the first time, did the team proud, with the girls winning all but one of their races.

It was the same result for the B team in Stevenage as they were bested only by Hatfield.

Carys Toland set the tone with a win in the first race of the night, the 25m fly, leading to wins from Katy Lane, Toby Trewin and Jemima Samols and the nine-year-old boys’ freestyle relay team.
