CoStA narrowly pipped to Peanuts title

CITY of St Albans Swimming Club narrowly missed out on the Peanuts League title despite taking 34 podium places on the final day.

The A and B teams are both in division one – the only club to achieve the feat this season – but were competing at different venues on the final day. The A team were at Stevenage while the B team swam at Hitchin.

CoStA were leading the league with a quarter of the final day’s races to go but Hatfield stormed back to take their sixth consecutive title.

Coach Stewart Melton said: “I am incredibly proud of the talent and hard work of the team to have swum so well against the best of Hertfordshire.

“It bodes really well for next year as we have some great swimmers coming through.”

CoStA had many personal bests on the night, no disqualifications and overall the team achieved 12 first places, 14 second places and eight third places, which scored 126 points overall, 11 points behind Hatfield.

CoStA girls were particularly strong, beating Hatfield in all but one age group, something only the U11 boys managed.
