Sam Corcoran could face an extended period on the sideline after picking up an injury in the first-half against Bishop’s Stortford.

The 23-year-old was away from play when he pulled up with a foot injury and was subsequently substitued. While nothing has been confirmed, St Albans City joint manager James Gray is hoping that it is not recurrence of the injury that plagued him last year.

Speaking after the game, Gray said: “Sam had a broken metatarsal last season and he did it again against Chesham in the play-off final. Today, again, there was no contact, he was just running, and felt something in his foot.

“He’ll be out for Monday but hopefully we’ll get him back sooner rather than later because he’s been great for us so far this season.”

Corcoran has been arguably the Saints’ best player this season and to lose him would be a huge blow for the team.

He was replaced by Lee Clarke against Stortford and the 31-year-old impressed, despite it being his first competitive action in the league.

“He slotted in nicely,” said Gray.

“Obviously, he’s been out of match practice but you couldn’t tell. He kept things ticking over. It’s good to have a player of his experience to call upon if needed. He has sat patiently and waited and he’s done well.”
