James Comley has been chosen as St Albans City’s player of the month for November.

It is the second month running he has picked up the accolade. Comley will be presented with the award prior to Saturday’s FA Trophy tie against Cambridge United by Phill Spokes, CEO of allseven24, the after hours travel service, who is the sponsor of the November award.

After being rested for a league fixture against Hitchin Town at the end of October, the 22-year-old was nothing short of exceptional, skippering the team six wins, including victories in the FA Cup and FA Trophy in November.

However, it was in Comley’s only loss of the month – the 8-1 FA Cup defeat by Mansfield Town – that he showed his true potential.

Battling in the centre of midfield, just four days after a leg-sapping FA Trophy penalty shootout win over Billericay, the captain was brilliant in every facet of his game.

It may have been the League Two side that progressed that day but, arguably, the best player on the pitch was wearing yellow and blue.

He took that form into the FA Trophy game and, again against higher level opposition, he won the battle in the middle of the pitch as the Saints set up a first round proper tie against Tonbridge Angels – a tie the Saints won.

He was equally impressive in the league, helping City to statement wins against Cambridge City and St Neots Town.

In the last two games, against Tonbridge and Weymouth, Comley has scored two in two – the first a fortuitous goal straight from a corner and the second a 25 yard strike.

Goals are the one thing his performances have been lacking this season but if he can continue his current streak there will be little doubt where the best midfielder in the division plays his football.
