Colney Heath are throught to the second qualifying round of the FA Cup for the first time in their 110-year history after a scintilating 3-0 win over Cockfosters.

Twice previously the Magpies have reached the first qualifying round only to have their hopes dashed.

But there was to be no disappointment this time around as two goals from Lee Armitt and one from Spencer Clarke-Mardel ensured progression.

After a disappointing outing against Crawley Green the previous week, manager Ryan Thompson made three changes for the game against a fellow Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division side.

And the changes helped propel Heath to a solid and high intensity start, culminating in the opening goal on seven minutes.

Armitt got free on the left-hand side but he squared the ball just behind the onrushing Clarke-Mardel.

However, great control and a quick spin put the ball into the back of the net.

The second followed quickly with Armitt’s smart finish and the Magpies should and could have been out of sight.

Armitt was looking lively after a couple of games out, and could have had a penalty as he went to ground in the box but the referee was unsighted.

But Armitt was not to be denied and movement and pace got him in one on one with the keeper, and a clever chip made it three.

The second half was a case of shutting-up shop, keeping the ball and seeing the game out, which they did with little problems.
