Colney Heath 1 St Albans City 1

ST ALBANS City’s pre-season preparations continued with a 1-1 draw at neighbours Colney Heath on Thursday evening.

Played on Heath’s second pitch in two 40 minute halves due to the lack of floodlights, the game was fiercely contested without too much in terms of goalmouth action.

City took the lead in the 34th minute when Alexis Nicolas’ pass got Dom Petrucci in one-on-one with Colney Heath defender Glen Draper and the City striker blasted past the defender before beating goalkeeper Tom Blackman from a tight angle.

Heath hit back in the second half with substitute Paul Armstrong seeing his corner hit the post with Steve Barker volleying over shortly after.

Petrucci had the opportunity to double City’s lead when Rob Magwood crossed for the striker but Petrucci shot straight at the goalkeeper.

The home side drew level when a long ball over the top had City’s defence in trouble with Jake Panayiotou heading the ball over his own keeper to leave the Magpies’ Murray with an easy finish.

City had the better chances to win the game with Petrucci volleying wide of the target following Magwood’s excellent defence-splitting pass before the striker saw his free kick crash back off the crossbar six minutes from time.
