DEADLY finishing from London Colney was enough to see off Epping FC on Saturday to make it three wins from three matches under manager Julian Robinson.

Striker Danny Fitzgerald drilled home a fine low shot from just outside the box to open the scoring. Paul Danslow and Tinashe Jaravaza both went close and Fitzgerald forced a good save from the Epping goalkeeper as Colney looked bright. Colin Wilson saw his well-struck free kick strike the foot of the post and rebound to safety before the break.

After half time Colney continued to attack with Jaravaza, Wilson and Fitzgerald looking lively. The second goal arrived when Russell Gallagher, who had struck the crossbar five minutes earlier, curled a spectacular shot into the top corner.

Late in the game, Ashley Aimakhu struck home the third goal after holding off a defender to pick up a through pass from the mercurial Cain Davey.

Former Colney boss Lee Ward, now in charge of Epping, watched his side create several chances but they were unable to beat impressive young Colney goalkeeper Anthony Ladyman.

Ward was happy to be back at his old club and believes that, with the right signings, the Blueboys can win back their Premier Division status. He said: "I think they have got a very, very young side. They signed Paul Danslow from Oxhey Jets but they need a few more experienced players. I would imagine they have aspirations to come straight back. I hope they go up. It would be good to see them back in that division.

"This match was a very good run out. It was our first game of pre-season and it could quite easily have been five or six all. They took their chances."

With Aimakhu, Gallagher and Fitzgerald all competing for forward slots next season, Colney should score plenty of goals. Ward feels Fitzgerald could be a key man for his former club next term. He said: "Danny Fitzgerald played well. He was lively. He comes alive when he has the ball at his feet. I was just saying to my players who were trying to mark him that his strength is his right foot and then the ball lands on his left foot and he smashes it in."

l On Tuesday London Colney reserves were beaten 1-0 at home by Park Street Village. Andy Murphy set up the winner for PSV when his firm shot was pushed out by Ladyman to Jamie Harper who fired home from 10 yards.

Colney take a strong side to Harefield today (Thursday) for a friendly clash and then face Cockfosters at home on Saturday. The Blueboys start the new campaign with a Herts Charity Shield clash with local rivals Colney Heath at Cotlandswick on Tuesday, with a 7.45pm kick off.
