North Enfield 113-10 (35.2) London Colney 117-6 (22.3)

LONDON Colney claimed their third win of the season on the road at North Enfield, in a slightly surreal Division Three fixture.

After winning the toss and batting, the home team skipper had to sit and watch as Colney opener Uzman Zaman claimed wickets with his second and sixth deliveries and reduced Enfield to 2-3 with another in his third over.

When Zaman struck again in the ninth over, and Tim Fretter claimed in the next, North Enfield were rocking at 19-5.

North Enfield's skipper, Orton, batting at number seven, showed some resolve and ground out a determined 39 before Zaman trapped him lbw. Williams, batting at number nine, took the fight to Colney with an undefeated rapid 33, but Colney wrapped up the tail when David Goff had the last man caught at short leg. North Enfield were dismissed for 113 inside 36 overs. Zaman finished with superb figures of 8-38 off 18 overs.

Colney's innings was even more eventful. Conscious that the pitch might have a part to play, Colney skipper Matt Bristow sent in Tim Fretter, looking for a positive opening start, and he performed his role excellently.

By the fifth over, while North Enfield's opening attack were still looking to find any sort of rhythm Colney had reached 43-0.

The home side hit back in the middle of the innings. Tim Fretter fell for 25, and both Ady Fisher and Tony Holloway were undone by deliveries that spat and reared from a length. At 59-4 the home side might have seen an outside chance, but Alex McCartney and Scott Hadley added 40 to take Colney to within sight of the win. Even then, two more wickets fell, but McCartney's fighting 41 saw Colney home on 117-6 in 22 eventful overs.

London Colney II were looking to bounce back to form as they hosted Rickmansworth II on Saturday in Division Seven.

The team fought well to eradicate memories of their horror show against Tewin and although they eventually succumbed to defeat they had the consolation of a better display and a personal milestone for Mitch Bradley.

After winning the toss and opting bat, Colney's innings was built around Bradley, who batted from start to finish, completing his first century to finish on an excellent undefeated 101.

Trevor Ray chipped in with 19, in an opening stand of 92 but Colney lost five wickets in taking the score to 203 at the close, with Hafiz claiming 4-53 for Ricky.

Any score of 200 plus is competitive and Colney started well enough, claiming two early wickets.

Hanif (97) and Nawaz (48) put on 95 for the third wicket, as Rickmansworth took control. Crucially, Colney failed to take presentable chances from both batsmen off Simon Fretter's bowling.

Although Den Hadley picked up 3-63, the middle order never looked under much pressure, and saw them home on 205-5 with almost two overs to spare.
