SAINTS striker Gary Cohen admitted it was a relief to open his account for the season with City's second goal in their 3-2 win at Weston-super-Mare on Saturday.

The former Grimsby man was without a goal in his previous 19 outings for the club but he ended that run when he turned home Alex Bailey's cross in the 60th minute and the pacy frontman was delighted to have got off the mark for the season.

"As a striker it's always hard when opportunities come and you don't take them," Cohen told the Herts Advertiser, "so it's good to get on the scoresheet, put everything to rest and hopefully I can kick on from here.

"It was a lovely cross - at one point I thought I wasn't going to get there because he'd (Alex Bailey) had a couple come in that I didn't get to but I got to that one finally."

The result was a great fillip for the Saints squad after their FA Cup exit last weekend and Cohen felt it vital they got all three points at the Woodspring Stadium

"Especially after the disappointment of last week, we always needed to come down here and get a win," said the 25-year-old. "It was a good win after a long journey and I thought we played well. I thought we probably could have scored a few more goals and we just need to be a bit tighter all over the pitch and hopefully we can go on a run like we did last season."

City have a free Saturday this weekend following their FA Cup disappointment but return to action the following Saturday when they welcome league leaders Newport County to Clarence Park.

It promises to be a stern test for Steve Castle's side but Cohen believes if the Saints can improve their Weston performance they have a chance of causing an upset.

"The thing is every game in this league is going to be tough, especially with them flying at the top at the moment," said Cohen. "We just need to set out our stall and play like we did today and hopefully we'll get another three points.
