City swimmers relish tough conditions

CITY of St Albans swimmers relished the tough weather conditions at the Bedford Aquathlon on Sunday. The 10 CoStA athletes all finished in the top 10 in their respective age groups and the club returned from the event with five gold medals. Chris Stobart

CITY of St Albans swimmers relished the tough weather conditions at the Bedford Aquathlon on Sunday.

The 10 CoStA athletes all finished in the top 10 in their respective age groups and the club returned from the event with five gold medals. Chris Stobart won the Under 15s boys and there were also victories for Coralie Du Preez (Under 15s girls), Holy Winfield (Under 14s girls), Robbie Lightowler (Under 12s boys) and Hannah Yorwerth (Under 11s girls).

The event comprised a swim of up to 400m immediately followed by a run of up to 3k depending on age and the athletes had to cope with torrential rain throughout.
