DAVE Anderson has expressed his disappointment for the players at St Albans City after his sacking last week.

Chairman John Gibson wielded the axe following the 4-0 reversal at Cambridge City but Anderson was stunned to be dismissed in the early stages of the job he was looking to do. The now ex-boss said: "I have been doing this for a long time and I feel my CV deserved a little bit more confidence. The aim was survival this season and there was work to be done in the summer. I saw it as a long plan to do that.

"When you get a builder in to do a house you don't judge him on how it looks a quarter of the way through. I think it is a ludicrous and hilarious decision and I do not think it is for the good of anybody. If I had been at the club and taken them down I could have understood it.

"I feel for my players. I had a great relationship with them. We got Lee Clarke scoring goals again, Ryan Frater is a great signing for the club, Richard Butler is a great signing, Craig Vargas is a good player and Jomo Faal-Thomas is very young and a good prospect. We also had Paul Bruce playing some great football.

"We had to move people on who were on Conference wages and we had to bring some people in short term until the January window where there is more movement of players. The injuries to Richard Butler and Dan Chillingworth were a big blow to us."

The highlight of Anderson's tenure was the progress in the Setanta Shield with Saints defeating Blue Square Premier title chasers Torquay United to set up a clash with Aldershot Town in the next round. Anderson said: "We won four games in a row at home, it just happened that three of those were in the cup. I didn't expect beating Torquay to earn me a three-year contract but equally I didn't expect to get sacked 10 league games into my job at St Albans. I really can't take the decision seriously and I am very serious about my football. I am available for work and I would hope that this experience hasn't diminished the reputation I have built within the game.
