City boss Steve Castle has improved his midfield options with the signing of Sam Hurrell and the loan deal for Luke Thurlbourne. Lee Clarke is also looking to stake a claim for a regular starting place after last season forming a strong midfield partnership with Thurlbourne.

Defender Protheroe has made five City appearances and put in some accomplished performances but he has been restricted by illness and is currently out with a groin problem. With the return of centre back Ryan Frater from injury, Castle has switched regular right back James Fisher back to the position and also has former Chesterfield man Alex Bailey who has performed well when called upon.
