CITY of St Albans Swimming Club (CoStA) finished in pole position at the opening round of this year’s Peanuts League, with the A squad walking out comfortable winners against some of strongest opposition in the county.

The Division One gala, held in Stevenage on April 20, saw CoStA storm ahead with 99 points, in front of Potters Bar (155 points), Harpenden (169 points) and Hertford (174 points).

CoStA’s B squad – who were promoted from Division Two last year – finished a respectable fifth place with 206 points, boosted by some very strong performances by the nine and 10-year-olds.

CoStA head coach, Stewart Melton, said, “We are lucky to have such depth of talent across the club, and I’m delighted by the performance of both teams. Bring on round two!”

The Peanuts League, which is open to nine to 12-year-olds, takes place over three rounds in April, May and June, with promotion and relegation between divisions for the top and bottom two teams. In the third and final gala in Divisions One and Two, the top six teams swim against each other and prizes are awarded to the overall winner and runner-up in each division.
