ST ALBANS CITY lost 4-2 to Barton Rovers on Tuesday night at Oaklands College.
In the Saints’ final pre-season game, Matt Taylor scored twice, both in the first half, but it wasn’t enough as the Southern League Division One Central side netted three times in the second half.
The season kicks off on Saturday (August 10) when City welcome Hemel Hempstead Town to Clarence Park for the first round of the Herts Charity Cup.
On August 17, the Southern League season gets underway with a trip to Poole before City’s first home game of the year a week later against Hungerford Town.
