Chelsea were in St Albans this week – with the Chelsea Pensioners’ bowls team taking on Batchwood.
The game was to help celebrate the club’s 50th anniversary.
Colonel Mark Baker accompanied the Chelsea team, who turned up resplendent in their uniforms, with Sergeant Mike Dows the captain for the day.
Although Batchwood won the match, the pensioners came out on top with the raffle prizes.
In total £170 was made for Batchwood president Noel Godman’s chosen charity, Great Ormond Street Children’s hospital.
A spokeswoman for the club said: “The members playing and spectators alike thoroughly enjoyed the game and listening to their stories.”
Elsewhere, Batchwood ladies played Kings Langley in the district league winning by two shots on the last end.
