London Colney moved another step closer to the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division title after a 1-1 draw with nearest challengers Hertford Town.
Greg Shaw’s strike cancelled out one by Ollie Sharman as the top two teams in the league battled to a point each.
It leaves London Colney five points clear of their county rivals but having played one game less.
And should Hertford fail to beat Welwyn Garden City at home on Saturday, it is possible they could take the crown with victory at Colney Heath of all places.
Saturday’s draw wasn’t the cracker most people expected with the sides cancelling each other out for long periods.
The Blueboys had the first real chance when Jon Clements’ cross was blazed high over the crossbar by Jack Woods with the goal at his mercy.
At the other end Tom Gowans did well to punch clear a dangerous free kick from Mark Thompson but he was powerless to prevent Town taking the lead on nine minutes.
Thompson floated in another free-kick which the unmarked Sharman headed home.
With both sides hitting long balls forward, which did not suit the hard bouncy surface, there weren’t many chances created by either team until late in the first.
And it was from a series of corners that Colney equalised. Tom Silford curled the ball in for Shaw to powerfully head home from five yards.
A fingertip save by Jamie Jackson from a Woods free-kick prevented the Blueboys going into the break in front while Gowans also had to be alert as Hertford threatened.
Mark Summers had a number of chances for Hertford in the second period but one effort was blocked by Silford while another drifted across goal and wide.
For Colney, top-scorer Clements headed just over after a corner kick from Dave Parkinson and then Jackson pulled off another good save to deny him a 37th of the campaign.
Just before the end Shaw went close with a well placed header which whistled past the far post following a great free kick from the left from Danny Fitzgerald.
And then Clements and Fitzgerald set up Shaw again but this time his rising shot flew just over the bar.
It all means the drama moves on to The Recreation Ground with kick-off at 3pm.
