St Albans Centurions youngsters show impressive maturity with two fine games

There was no game for the senior side this week but St Albans Centurions U14s still did the club proud with a big win away to Kent Invicta Panthers.

Played in Maidstone, the young Cents came away with a fine 54-30 success thanks to an impressive show of attacking intent.

Coach Gary Tetlow said: “Our attack was spot on but defensively we made a few naïve plays and that’s where we need improvement.” The victory puts them second in the London League.

They were also due to play Oxford Cavaliers but in the end had an inter-club match after Oxford were forced to cancel.

He said “ I divided the boys into two equal groups and then I let them get on with it. Each group was responsible for their own warm ups, their own pre game briefing, game tactics, picking their own captains, everything I usually do.

“I said to the boys ‘show me what you can do; show me leadership and organisation’ and they did in a great game which was so close that there was only one try difference at the end.”
