THE New Greens Gladiators U15's were unable to emulate their junior team when they went down to a very well drilled and unbeaten team from Northampton.
The game started out on an even keel, with both teams throwing the ball about and putting in some great breaks with the amount of dropped balls by the Gladiators about the only difference in the teams.
It wasn't until half way through the first half that the Knights got their first two tries - again from silly mistakes by the Glads, and with 10 minutes to go both teams got a try apiece to make it 18-6 to the Knights at half time.
The second half was just like the first, the Northampton boys playing good expansive rugby league, with the St Albans lads getting up to their opponents try line on several occasions only to drop the ball or knock on.
The final score of 36-6, or six tries to one wasn't a fair reflection on the day, but at the end, the team that made the least mistakes won the game.
Senior coach Shane Rampling said: "Lots of dropped balls and silly mistakes cost us the game.
"We had four first teamers out injured and against an outfit like the Knights, you can't make that number of mistakes or be under strength.
"Northampton are a good side, they have gone the whole season unbeaten.
"Once again Adam Sherwood-Pierce gave 100 per cent and led by example, Ben Douglas and Luke Fiacca just never stopped, and I want to say I was very proud as to how the whole team stayed at it throughout the game without their heads ever going down.
