Two members of the St Albans Centurions Rugby League Club have returned from international duty.
Nick Woolley, pictured below, represented the GB teachers’ side as they took on the newly-formed Poland national team.
And Cents physio Leonard McMain was on the sidelines for Serbia as they took on Wales and Italy in World Cup qualifiers.
McMain said: “It was a massive learning curve for the Serbians.
“They were playing against players of top quality, some of whom play in either the Superleague or the National Rugby League in Australia.
“Rugby league has been picked up in the Balkan States and Eastern Europe with the likes of Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria and Macedonia all playing the game.
“I started with them in 2006 to get rugby league on the map. What they have done since is unbelieveable.
“Their goal is to qualify for the 2021 World Cup. To get to this stage now was a big surprise.
“It’s a great honour for me. They didn’t have to.
“I’m looking forward to more things next year.”
Woolley and McMain join a number of Cents who have recieved national and regional recognition this year.
