Centurions Minis hosting taster sessions in build up to 2013 season

For boys and girls in Years 1 and 2, the first session is on Thursday, February 28 from 5.30-6.30pm at Samuel Ryder Academy Sports Hall and will continue every Thursday until the outside pitch is playable.

It is the first time the Minis have both offered pre-season taster sessions and indoor training. The benefit of the indoor training will enable the children to get to grips with the basic skills involved in tag rugby without being influenced by the weather.

Co-ordinator Gary Tetlow said: “Running taster sessions is a new venture for us but we hope it will give the younger children the opportunity to come along and see what tag rugby is all about.

“Everyone is welcome, regardless of sporting background. We aim to make the sessions both fun and challenging.”

Training for the older age groups - Years 3-6 – start March 14 from 5.30-6.45pm at the same venue, where the children will have the opportunity to “refresh or build on the skills” they have.

U11 coach Craig Naylor added: “We recognise that many boys and girls have on-going winter sporting commitments, but we hope by pitching our training on a Thursday evening, it will allow parents to get the children along and give league a go.

“We are used to introducing new children to rugby and give them the confidence to tackle and pass, and all the other kills involved in this exciting sport.

“By working indoors for the first few weeks it will open up many opportunities for the club, especially for skills development.’

The club also revealed it has mini rugby festivals for under-six, seven, nine and eleven throughout the year as well as tickets for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup, which will be available to club members.
