STEVE Castle praised Daniel Chillingworth after the striker netted his first goal in City colours.

The striker, who first made an appearance in a City shirt in December 2007, was making his first start for the club after nine sub appearances and took just 14 minutes to open his account with a bullet header at the near post from David Galbraith's corner.

The 28-year-old has seen his promising career blighted by injuries but Castle believes these problems are now behind him and he hopes the former Cambridge United man can be the one to fire City up the Blue Square South table.

"He's a goalscorer," said the City boss. "If Daniel's anywhere near fit he'd be playing worse ways in the Conference Premier because a only a couple of years ago I was at Cambridge with Mark Peters and he was one of our best strikers."

"He's had a bad time injury wise and he's coming back to fitness. Daniel had a very bad ankle problem that he thought he was finished with. That ankle's fine but it's just general fitness which hopefully he can get from playing in a winning team."

Another player who has impressed since coming to the club is Galbraith. Although still struggling for match sharpness, the former Tottenham trainee has shown that bit of class, especially from set plays and that is something that Castle is delighted to have addressed.

"It's been a long time coming. Lads at this level shouldn't be messing up corners and set plays.

"I went and took an FA Youth Cup game and lads were putting it in the right areas, there is no reason why we can't and David's just shown how easy it is. He's got a great left foot, he puts it into areas and that's his job done and then someone like Daniel Chillingworth has got to get himself in there which is what he's done."

Manny Williams' 75th minute equaliser for Havant meant City had to make do with a point and Castle admitted it was a result he would have taken before the game.

"Let's be honest, we'll take some positives out of it. I can think quite numerous negatives but a team like Havant & Waterlooville are going to be at the top end of the table. We're a little bit disappointed they equalised but we probably would have taken that at three o'clock.

The defence took plenty of plaudits for Saturday's display with Mark Peters being awarded the sponsor's Man of the Match award but the City boss is worried that players are still making too many bad decisions.

"We've got some decent defenders and Mark Peters is one of them. If I can keep him on the football pitch as much as possible I think we look a better team," added Castle.

"I went with James Quilter in at right back just to make us that little bit more solid but there are still same bad choices being made by some good players."

City travel to strugglers Weymouth on Saturday where they will have to do without the suspended James Fisher and Jamie Thurlbourne however they welcome back Solomon Shields following his three-game ban.

"I'm pleased to get Sol back," said Castle. "Obviously it's going to be a bit of a shame missing Fish and Jamie Thurlbourne which is going to make us a bit more depleted but we've just got to deal with it and take it from there.
