CITY boss Steve Castle admits changes may have to be made if his side continue their barren spell in front of goal.

The Clarence Park side have scored just eight goals this season, four of which have come from the penalty spot, and only two away from home both of which came in the 3-2 defeat at Welling.

Following a third away defeat without a goal to their name at Chelmsford, the City supremo is considering changes.

"We're not showing enough quality in the final third," said Castle after the game. "Possession wise we're competing, Mark Peters has just said there that him and Ryan Frater were never in any trouble.

"We've just got to keep on trying to change it. With the budget I'm going to have to get a few people out to get a few people in.

"We are missing a Paul Hakim on a regular basis. No disrespect to Paul but we can't keep on having the situation where he's in and out. We need regular goalscorers and with the endeavour Gary Cohen gives us and Drew Roberts give us, Danny Green gives us.

"Other than Drew's penalties there are hardly any goals between them. Obviously Craig (Calver) has scored a few (at Southend) but it while take him a while. It's frustrating, there's despondency, I wouldn't say it's creeping into us but we've just got to keep letting these defeats wash over us and come back a positive team on Tuesday.

Castle admitted getting anything from Chelmsford was always going to be a tall order due to the huge gulf in the clubs' resources.

"Probably objectively coming to Chelmsford were we going to get anything with what we've got? The lads in there think they are but when you look at budgets and what they're squad is assembled of and what our squad is assembled of then probably objectively you'd think we weren't ever going to get anything."

Daniel Chillingworth came on as a half-time substitute on Saturday after returning from holiday and the City manager believes if the former Cambridge man can stay injury free he will score goals.

"He looked a little bit fitter, he's had a chance. What Daniel Chillingworth will do is score goals and if we keep him in the team we've got a chance."

Young goalkeeper Michael Emery made his debut deputising for the suspended Paul Bastock and Castle was pleased with the youngster's performance.

"The lad's only 18, he's come as an understudy to Paul Bastock and has acquitted himself very well. That side of it wasn't the issue, I thought the two centre backs played very well."

The defeat at Melbourne Park on Saturday saw City come face-to-face with former skipper and last season's Player of the Year Ben Martin for the first time and Castle admits that the side have missed their former skipper.

"Ben's a fantastic lad; I've got so much time for him. Obviously other than this game, I wish him all the best. He's struggling with his groin but we've missed him there are no qualms about it. You miss your Player of the Year and Supporters Player of the Year. I wouldn't be surprised if the first result he looks out for is us. I speak to him on a fairly regular occurrence and he's good friends with people like Fisher and Frater.

Staines Town are the visitors to Clarence Park tonight (Tuesday) and City are likely to be missing Adam Everitt after the full back was forced off with injury on Saturday.

"I think he'll be doubtful for Tuesday with the games coming thick and fast," said Castle. "He just rolled his ankle over and his ankle's come up twice the size so I'd be surprised if he's right for Tuesday.

"We've got Staines who are going to be a strong team not on a dissimilar budget to what we're on. We've got to get that belief back which only results will get you. I can tell them how much I believe in them and what good players I think they are but if you keep conceding it drains you of confidence and at the moment we are conceding at will. I'll personally be pleased with clean sheets from Staines Town onwards and if we nick anything, we nick anything. That's not to say I'm going to go negative in any shape or form but with what quality we've got with Paul Bastock coming back in we shouldn't be conceding sloppy goals like we've been doing and then we'll work on that forward play.
