ST ALBANS City's youngsters were at the centre of an FA Youth Cup upset on Tuesday night as they knocked out their counterparts from League One Colchester United at Clarence Park.

Tinashe Muskwe claimed the only goal of the night as City turned in a solid team performance to keep their opponents at bay.

There were a number of excellent performances and manager Steve Castle paid tribute to his players.

"You could see the quality they've got but we edged it," the City boss told the Herts Advertiser. "We've had some unbelievable performances from some unusual lads, if I'm honest. Stefano Geraldes, I hope he won't mind me saying, was awful on Friday against Hitchin. We got beat 5-1 against them but, whether they (the players) were keeping themselves right for this game, I don't know.

"With all due respect we're a college set up and they are full time and obviously the number 11 for them (Alex O'Leary) has been involved with the first team and it really was a David and Goliath job and I'm absolutely made up for them," added Castle.

Goalkeeper Adam McWeeney took the plaudits after making a string of fine saves and Castle described the big 'keeper's performance as of the highest quality.

"He's a great shot-stopper, he makes mistakes like all young goalkeepers do but he was absolutely top draw tonight."

City have got another home draw in the next round with either Wycombe Wanderers or Maidstone the visitors. Their game is set to take place tonight (Thursday).

Castle is happy with another home draw and said it would be great if they could get an even bigger crowd than they did for the Colchester game.

"Hopefully we can get a few more people here," explained the City manager. "There's a lot of students here that are making a lot of noise. It's great, I'm just so happy for them all.

"This college thing has been going on for six or seven years now and to be perfectly honest the first two or three years, ability wise, we just weren't getting anyone through. Now we're gradually getting it.

"They're all doing themselves justice and that's all I ask of them.
