STEVE Castle faces a real selection headache ahead of Newport County's visit to Clarence Park on Saturday but for once it's for all the right reasons.

Ryan Frater and Adam Everitt returned from injury, coming off the bench in the 4-0 win at Fisher Athletic but they will have to force their way into a backline that has kept five clean sheets in a row and with Hector Mackie returning from suspension and Simon Martin popping up with two goals in the win at Fisher, Castle is going to be faced with several decisions to make.

Speaking after the win at Fisher, Castle said: "It's nice to have that problem. I don't think there are any injuries of note. Hector Mackie's to come back in so there's an extra midfielder to think about and it'll be one of them to make it as strong as possible from now until the end of the season."

Mackie in particular faces a tough task to force his way back into the starting lineup after Jonathan Hunt turned in a fantastic performance on the left wing.

"I've been throwing him [Hunt] from left to right. He's done well in the resurgence, we've had to miss out on Hector Mackie through suspension, it might teach him, he's done very well for himself and obviously now I will have food for thought. Jon's shown what class he is and as long as he keeps on producing at the right end we'll be pleased."

Castle says the first goal was all important on Saturday particularly with the pitch being so hard to play on.

"I say there's no easy games in Conference South, I think the first goal was all important and there was a case they could have got their noses in front and it might have been a real uphill task. I think in general some good football was played on a very poor pitch. We tried to play some football, we got some crosses in and we attacked the ball. The scoreline you can never argue against."

City could have found themselves 2-0 down within the first 13 minutes and Castle believes the pitch caught his defence out.

"I think the conditions had a little bit to play in that one, it was quite difficult for the centre halves. The instruction is to not let the ball bounce and they did unfortunately and that gave us a few problems and had it been better finishing it might have been a bit more of an uphill task than it has been.

"In fairness, they're bottom, they haven't won that many, they won on Tuesday so they did have some sort of fight in them but really it was that first goal that was all important and we started to play just that bit more."

Fisher's failure to test Lee Butcher in the City goal means that City have now gone four and a half games without the opposition getting a shot on target a stat that Castle is delighted with.

"Lee Butcher's come here for some practice and at the moment the stat is two clean sheets for him. That is a really pleasing one and we've been reasonably tight at the back. I'm really pleased with everything at the moment."

Simon Martin marked his 253rd appearance for the club with a brace and Castle praised his contribution.

"How can you knock that? That's great, Simon's an honest lad and he's gone in, and I wanted him to have some minutes on the pitch, he's had two opportunities and slotted them in lovely. His finishing is without question.
