St Albans Hockey Club’s girls’ club captain Libe Fadrique and ladies’ club Captain Liz Cleverly were on the scoresheets on Saturday on a great weekend for the Tangerines.

Fadrique and junior coach Sophie White scored in the ladies’ 4ths’ 2-2 draw with Leighton Buzzard while Cleverly scored twice as the 3rds won 4-2 at Southend, the other goals coming from Mar Copues and Amy Lynn. The 2nds also hit four in beating Chelmsford 4-0, to stay six points clear at the top of East Division 1S, through goals by Sarah Embrey (two), Emily Panniers and Fiona Nekeman.

The men’s 5ths achieved an impressive six-point weekend with Sunday’s 3-2 win against Winchmore Hill following a 2-0 Saturday win against Bishop’s Stortford. Three of the St Albans men’s teams hit opponents for six. At Oaklands, a John Barrett hat-trick paved the way for the Emperors’ - men’s vets - 6-0 win over Maidenhead, after the 4thss beat Southgate Adelaide 6-2.

Meanwhile, the 1sts won 6-0 at Wisbech, with goals from Mark Lowden (two), Paul Cooper (two), Alex Spencer and Matt Davey, to go within four points of division leaders Wapping, who the Tangerines play in a crucial game at Oaklands at 3pm this Saturday.

The ladies’ 1sts are in Nottingham for the weekend’s National Division Two indoor finals.
