Emily Carolan and Kyran Gosling, two 11-year-old members of Bushido Hombu Karate Club, have earned their 3rd Kyu brown belts.
Both put in an “enormous effort” during the hour long examination and showed exemplary spirit for people of their age, according to chief instructor Kevin Archibald, who kept a close and demanding eye on all aspects of kihon, kata, kumite and padwork displayed, requesting several additional kata and for the kumite to be repeated several times.
Their grading came two weeks after both impressed at the EKSF Open Championships in East London. Although neither won a medal, both displayed a good standard of karate from their chosen kata in what was their first international tournament.
