HOVERCRAFT racers James Drew and Nick Drew will be looking to continue their impressive form in the National Championships on Saturday, July 12 and Sunday, July 13.

The brothers, from St Albans, have been racing hovercraft for 16 years and have built a new craft which has helped propel them towards the lead at Sheffield in the previous meeting.

They will be looking for victory in the next meeting at Claydon House, Middle Claydon.

Last year they finished fifth overall in the national championship but are currently second in the championship six points clear of the third place man.

There are four meetings left this season at various tracks around the country.

The weekend racing event is a great day out for the family set in the National Trust site of Claydon House. As well as watching the championship racing, sponsors of the weekend Stratstone of Aylesbury Land Rover will be offering competitions and a Land Rover display, and there will be bouncy castles, refreshments and a licensed bar to enjoy. Entrance is £10 per car. On Saturday practice starts at 10am with the first race starting at 1pm and on the Sunday the racing will start from 11am.

Racing hovercraft travel just six inches off the ground and reach speeds of up to 60 mph with no brakes. There will be two days of intense racing on a course which comprises a third water and two thirds land. The land is very undulating which can catch drivers out but all the drivers and spectators love the fast water straight.
