Basingstoke Town’s manager admitted his side “got away with one” after they picked up a point at St Albans City.

Jason Bristow saw his promotion-chasing side stutter at Clarence Park as they struggled to contain the Saints. Sam Corcoran fired the hosts into a 13th-minute lead but it was all they could muster against an inspired performance from Stuart Moore in Basingstoke’s goal.

Danny Williams turned in a beautiful cross from Nathan Smart five minutes after the interval to level the score, but it was a relatively quiet day for City’s shot-stopper Joe Welch. Moore, on the other hand, was in constant action but he stood up to the test to earn his side an unlikely point.

Speaking to John Boyman of the Basingstoke Gazette, Bristow said: “We didn’t earn the right to play in the first half. Credit to them; they set up well and stopped us from passing the ball. We’ve got to earn the right to play, we did that in the second half and created a couple of chances but certainly, Stuart has kept us in the game. It was a good point for us.”
