Townsend Bowls Club

TOWNSEND played their latest London & Southern Counties Shield tie against Chesham. Despite the fact the match ended 2-2 in rinks, Chesham won by virtue of a higher shot score overall.

The winning rinks for Townsend were those of John Godman, with Alan Charran, Jeff Harber and Jason Hall and the overall top rink was skipped by Chris Turrell, with Dave Houghton, David Day and Peter Thomson.

This success is particularly marked as Chris has only recently moved to the area from Sussex and this was his first taste of skipping in the Shield for Townsend.

In midweek, Townsend were the guests of Welwyn & District. A close match eventually depended on the result of the final rink, where a spirited comeback from 22-10 down had resulted in a score of 20-19 with one end to go. Alas it was not to be and Welwyn eventually won the rink by 22-19.

That meant the match was halved 2-2 in rinks but Welwyn won on shots. Top rink for the visitors was skipped by Gordon Williamson, and comprised Alan Tucker, Laurie Rackham and Peter Thomson.
