Harpenden Bowling Club are celebrating after winning the St Albans & District Ladies Friendly League.

The club also held their club finals with two action-packed days.

The Ladies Championship was won by Dena Roberts and the men’s by Nick Muir.

Robert Akester picked up the Minor League trophy, his first title.

A spokesman said: “The two days ran flawlessly and were accompanied by the donation of time and hard work by the officers and members of the club to set up the clubhouse and provide very tasty sustenance for all.”

Rena Williamson led the way at Townsend Bowls Club taking both the Ladies Singles Championship and the Two Wood Singles.

Alan Quested, Peter Thomson and Jane Dixon also claimed two titles.

Quested teamed with Ian Forster for the Men’s Handicap Pairs, Dixon with Gary West in the Mixed Pairs while Thomson and Dixon joined up to win the Mixed Two Wood Pairs.

Peter Armstrong took the Men’s Singles Championship.

John Oakey, Ernie Wright and Dave Houghton took the remaining titles.

Batchwood Hall’s weekend saw Brian Parkes take the Men’s Singles while Kate Horner was crowned Ladies’ Singles champion.

Parkes took the Open mixed title with Kelly Price and the Open mixed Australian Pairs with Bob Aris.

Horner also picked up a second win, taking the Mixed Pairs with Martin Myland.

And there were two victories for Terry Chandler as well as one each for Barbara Palmer and Ian Simons and John Harvey.
