SALISBURY Lawn Tennis Club hosted their annual finals day with the stars of the future taking the spotlight on court.
The charity-themed day provided the ideal opportunity for the club, based at Salisbury Avenue, St Albans, to showcase the competitive tennis side and friendly social atmosphere. There was a barbecue, raffle and, alongside the action on the tennis courts, table-tennis and table-football tournaments, with more than £250 raised for Grove House day hospice.
On court, highlights included the Under 12s boys singles, as Johannes Bockenbauer fought back from a close first set reverse to defeat Edward Gooden in three sets and the Under 14s girls singles, with Lucy Grant edging out Hannah Saunders in a decisive third set.
The Under 16s boys singles final gave a glimpse of the club's potential in the men's senior levels, with fast-emerging youngsters Jon Tho and Ross Bogle displaying impressive composure and technique. Tho took the victory 6-4, 6-2.
