London Colney 1 Langford 0

LONDON Colney played the first of their friendlies when they entertained Langford at Cotlandswick running out 1-0 winners.

Manager Julian Robinson used 20 players and there was a welcome return for three ex-Blueboys with Kenny Hull, Frankie Jowle and David Parkinson all in the squad.

Jowle and Russell Gallagher looked lively on either wing and Gallagher had the first opportunity of the game but his effort was saved. Magwood saw his effort go just over the bar and Rowley and Paul Danslow had low drives saved by Kevin Line the Langford custodian.

At the other end Blueboys goalkeeper Rob Munn did well to save at the feet of Lee Pateman.

Rowley and Simmonds played a one-two which saw the latter strike a good shot just wide of the far post.

Jowle saw a crashing drive from 25 yards go narrowly over the bar after he'd intercepted a poor defensive pass and Danslow had a good curling shot saved.

On the stroke of half-time an inswinging corner from Jowle nearly found its way in but the Langford 'keeper reacted at the last moment to punch the ball out.

Early in the second half Parkinson set up Sam Wilkinson who saw his lofted shot go just over and then Parkinson went close after a good pass from Hull.

A nice move saw Danny Fitzgerald play an excellent pass to Hull who delivered a right wing cross but Butcher could only blaze the ball over the bar from six yards.

The Blueboys hit what turned out to be the winner in the 56th minute. Wilkinson played a lovely ball to Fitzgerald who slipped past a Langford defender before driving the ball past Line into the bottom right corner of the net.

Next Beschizza went close while Parkinson had an effort blocked by Line.

A fine cross by Matt Hudson saw Line fumble the ball and Fitzgerald blazed over from close range.

For Langford a snap shot by Mark Ellis went past Soulard's left post and then Mark Wright had a header saved by Soulard.

Wilkinson fired in a long range shot that was saved and then Fitzgerald should have made it 2-0 when he raced clear but again Line pulled off a good stop just inside the box.

The Blueboys' pre-season fixtures continue on Saturday when Eaton Manor visit Cotlandswick (k.o. 3pm).
