Blueboys make it back-to-back victories

SSML Division One

London Colney 3 Langford 1

LONDON Colney picked up another three points with a hard fought victory over Langford on Tuesday night.

The Blueboys had to work hard for their win against a Langford side which started brightly with Ashley Fitton causing problems down the right wing.

Despite Fitton’s dangerous crosses early on it was the Blueboys who created the first real opening but Langford custodian Gavin Carr was equal to Matt Newman’s header.

The Colney forward got one over Carr soon after though as he put Ryan Thompson’s side ahead on 28 minutes.

As a Langford attack broke down in-form Whittamore sent a long ball down field for Newman to run on to and as Carr came haring out of his goal the Colney forward flicked the ball past the ‘keeper and into the net.

The Blueboys were unable to hold onto their lead until the interval, however, as Langford struck five minutes before the break.

Fitton was the provider, whipping in yet another good cross and this time Kim Forsythe was on hand to hook the ball over Whittamore and into the net.

Parity last just two minutes into the second half though as the Blueboys restored their advantage.

Langford only partially cleared a free kick and when Greg Shaw played the ball back into the box Newman teed up Mark Paradise to drive the ball past Carr.

The game was put to bed in the 68th minute with a third goal for the hosts.

Shaw - who also missed a sitter - was again involved in the build up releasing Jerome Cole who confidently tucked the ball through Carr’s legs to open his account for the club and put Colney up to fourth in the Division One table.

Colney: Whittamore; Hull, McCafferty, Saul, Paradise, Stevens, Butler, Shaw, Newman (Knightly), Clarke (Cole), Jowle (Thompson).
