LONDON Colney inflicted the first defeat of the season on league leaders Holmer Green.

The win moves the Blueboys up to fourth spot and leaves them eight points behind Holmer.

The Blueboys started brightly despite missing David Parkinson through suspension and the injured Frankie Jowle. Kenny Hull and Russell Gallagher both carved out early chances for the visitors.

Julian Robinson's side made the breakthrough in the eighth minute with a well worked goal.

Dave Corran won the ball and instantly played a one-two with Gallagher. Corran then struck a very rare right footed shot low into the bottom corner from 25 yards.

Joe Bovingdon's snap shot nearly got Holmer Green back on level terms while Colney felt they should have had a penalty when Galllagher was pulled back.

Josh Humbert headed just over from Garry Simmonds' free kick and Gallagher again went close.

Humbert was called into action at the other end to clear the danger as Holmer Green broke into the Blueboys' box.

The hosts' cause wasn't helped when Gary Finch was shown a second yellow card just before the break after he'd brought down Gallagher.

The visitors enjoyed a lot of the possession after the break but they couldn't turn it into goals.

Simmonds raced clear of the Holmer Green defence, rounded goalkeeper Charlie Fanner but went down as he tried to shoot. Simmonds had to go off injured and was shown a yellow card for simulation.

Colney eventually got a second goal 12 minutes from time when Greg Shaw drove the ball into the far corner from a free kick.

Nesan Jeyaratnam should have made it 3-0 when he intercepted a square pass but Fanner saved his effort although the visitors did get a third in injury time.

Jeyaratnam laid the ball off to Gallagher who curled the ball into the bottom right hand corner giving Fanner no chance.
