Chalfont St Peter 4 London Colney 2

LONDON Colney went away to Molten Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division leaders Chalfont St Peter on Saturday.

The Blueboys had a bad start and conceded twice inside the first five minutes. Ryan Welsh set up Terrell Lewis to make it 1-0 from eight yards and, two minutes later, Welsh drove the ball in for 2-0.

Cain Davey set up Tinashe Jaravaza who had a header cleared off the line as Colney looked for an immediate response. At the other end Shaun Murphy made a great challenge on Bradley Bubb to prevent a third Chalfont goal.

Colney goalkeeper Stuart McHale produced a good save to deny Lewis, before the deficit was reduced as the Blueboys hit back. Dave Townsend whipped in a free kick for Chris Wickens to head home in style.

Chalfont were denied again by Murphy who got back to challenge the dallying Daniel Hughes when a third goal looked inevitable.

On the stroke of half time, Chalfont St Peter extended their lead with Lewis firing home from close range after the Blueboys gave the ball away.

To their credit, the Blueboys responded again after the break and Jaravaza found Cain Davey who skipped past two defenders before firing against the crossbar. The ball fell kindly for midfielder Lee Rickard who drove home the rebound to bring the score back to 3-2.

The match swung from end-to-end, with McHale denying Hughes and Bradley Bubb twice thwarted by Sergeant and Mark Paradise making vital blocks. Davey forced a good save at the other end and Wickens, chasing a second goal, almost latched on to a pass from Jaravaza.

Sam Mitchell and Paradise fired shots wide as Colney pressed for an equaliser and Steve Seeby made a fine interception with Paradise to stop Lewis going through on goal.

Chalfont finally sealed the points when Hughes collected a wayward pass from Lee Rickard and found Bubb to run through and score to make it 4-2.

Murphy, Seeby and Townsend played well for the Blueboys and Rickard did well in his new role as skipper.
