Broadfields United 0 Belstone 1

RADLETT side Belstone won their first end of season final to add to the Benevolent Shield won at the start and remain on course for five trophies this season.

With the first team squad cut to 18 and the starting positions for the finals being shared around by manager Joe Sheridan, no one was assured of a place. The game, played at Hillingdon Borough FC, was watched by great support from both sides.

The Belstone defence of Tom and Phil Merritt in the centre and full backs James Rattray and captain Chris Ingham showed fine form while midfielder John Bescizza protected the back four well.

Belstone had the better of the chances in the first half on the break with strikers Jamie Arthur and Steve Quinn both shooting wide from tight angles.

Broadfields again controlled possession in the second half but Belstone looked more dangerous and after 60 minutes Nick Turner headed in Paul Yule's corner only to see it disallowed for a foul off the ball.

Giles Arthur then came close, rounding three Broadfields defenders before seeing his shot well saved. With 20 minutes to go, Nick Turner scored the only goal of the game. The ball fell to him inside the area, and he tricked two defenders before toe pocking the ball inside the post.

Kevin Yule then came on for his brother Paul into midfield and Matt Cole replaced Steve Quinn up front. Belstone nearly extended the lead at the death when Jamie Arthur robbed his defender of the ball raced through but hit his shot wide. At the other end the Radlett side relied on impressive goalkeeper Robbie Blackburne to seal the clean sheet and the victory.

Belstone face Broadfields United again on Sunday, May 11 at Belstone in the Champions Cup Final. Kick off 11am.

l A draw in the Premier Division at KDA leaves Belstone needing 14 points from their remaining seven games to secure the league crown.

Belstone took the lead after an hour when after good work down the right Matt Cole pulled the ball back to Nick Turner who finished with composure.

KDA equalised with their only attempt of the game. The referee awarded Belstone a corner. KDA protested the ball had not gone out of play and the referee then allowed them to play on as Belstone were setting up the corner. The ball was kicked forward and the KDA striker finished well.

Frustration was compounded for Belstone when Nick Turner headed over an empty net and they were denied a penalty shout late on.
