ST PETERS suffered their tenth league defeat of the present campaign following a below-par performance against Enfield-based side Hinton, going down 2-0 at Lemsford on Saturday.

The Saints had to shuffle their limited resources around due, one again, to numerous absentees. Playing several players out of position to plug the gaps, the Saints stuck to their task, relying on some good defensive play and the visitors' wayward finishing.

Both the defences lived dangerously during the opening 45 minutes but poor finishing at either end of the field somehow kept the score blank. A couple of injuries during the closing stages of the first half caused the Saints to change things around once again and it was no surprise that the visitors took advantage to go 1-0 ahead.

Chris Collings was having an excellent game in goal for the Saints, coming to the rescue on more than one occasion as Hinton created a series of attacks with the elements in their favour during the second period.

Very little was seen of the Saints attack as the game progressed, with few clear cut chances coming their way on a day when nobody was prepared to have a go when in sight of goal.

The visitors wrapped things up 15 minutes from time, when their striker was given time and space to fire home past the excellent Collings. Play became scrappy towards the end of the match with further goal-scoring chances being squandered, especially by the visitors, who became rather complacent and snatched at the few opportunities that they created.

Although the Saints have had their problems, they've managed to restrict their opponents to only a few goals. It's the attack that is most worrying with this being the seventh match in which the Saints have failed to score.

The Saints turn their attentions to the Herts Intermediate Cup on Saturday when they entertain Harpenden Town Reserves at Lemsford with kick-off at 1.30pm.
