London Colney boss Joe Sweeney has called on football fans from the region to cheer on his side as they chase the SSML Premier Division title and promotion to step four.

They currently top the table by five points from nearest rivals Hertford Town and have 12 league games left of the campaign.

Sweeney told the Herts Ad: “The club and its players need as much support from the local area for the run-in as possible.

“We have six home games left and need as many people to come along and cheer the lads as we can get.

“We are one of the smallest clubs in the division in terms of support and budget so a few more through the gate will make a real difference.”

Colney finished as runners-up last season to AFC Dunstable, but then manager Ryan Thompson departed as did many of the players.

Former Chesham United Reserves boss Sweeney was appointed in the summer and put together a new first team squad.

The new-look Blueboys have been somewhat of a surprise package in 2016/17 under the new leadership.

Having won 25 of their 30 league matches so far, Sweeney knows his players have won nothing yet and need to keep their focus.

“I am so proud of the players so far, but it needs to be remembered that we have to keep working hard and not to get away from our basic principles of hard work,” he said.

Frontmen Archie McClelland and Jon Clements have weighed in with 26 and 31 goals in all competitions respectively.

Of the duo, Sweeney said: “Archie had never really played first team before and at 19-years-old to have come in and scored almost 30 goals already he is a revelation.

“Jon has been around the block, but rediscovered his love of the game with us and both want to help us achieve this season.”

Colney are next at home on Tuesday night to Biggleswade United.
