Division Three

Totteridge Millhillians 135-10 (45.0) Wheathampstead 84-10 (32.4)

WHEATHAMPSTEAD travelled to a Headstone Lane on Saturday to face Totteridge Millhillians II in Division Three.

TM won the toss and elected to bat on a track that looked to offer help for the seamers. Adam Robbins was unlucky to see Iqbal dropped at slip and he went on to make a fortunate 36 before driving to mid off for a catch off Dave Tree's bowling. Ali Shan removed the TMs number three, bowled middle stump for a duck and trapped Ahmed LBW for 4 with an in-swinging full toss. I. Khan (33) and N. Hussain (45) batted well. Steve Booth lured false shots into extra cover for two well taken catches and the tail was wrapped up without difficulty. Wheato were pleased to take a score of 135-10 at tea. Adam Robbins (7-1-24-3) and Ali Shan (12-3-31-3) bowled well but dropped catches lose matches and with greater concentration Wheato could have chased a sub 100 total.

The recent frailty of the Wheato batting showed its ugly head again. Walayat fell to a well judged boundary catch by Durrani for a quick fire 16 before a dramatic collapse with only Sam Ledger batting doggedly through the innings for 30 not out.

WCC were all out for 84. Skipper Steve Booth said: "I am clearly disappointed to let a good opportunity for a win slip by but that is cricket for you, we have to learn by our mistakes and move on to the next challenge. I cannot rule out changes to the batting line up though."

Wheathampstead II secured another 30 points as skipper Lozza Garland's juggernaut chugged towards the promotion places in Division Eight.

After losing the toss, Wheato ruthlessly dissected North Enfield with a very tight bowling display.

An explosive spell from Ben Griffiths backed up by a measured start by fellow opener Adrian Lewis set the visitors reeling.

Griffiths (13-2-30-4) and left-armer Jimmy McEwan (6-0-19-3) did the majority of the damage as North Enfield were dismissed for a mere 98 in just 36 overs.

The moderately easy run chase started positively with openers Tim Kiek (18) and Lozza Garland (2) settling the side.

The dismissal of Kiek brought Griffiths (28 not out) to the crease who hit the winning runs with support from Eamon Keane (20) as Wheato finished on 99-7.

After the game, relieved WCC II player Trevor Smith said: "We have a momentum now that could propel us into another world cricket wise. The team is getting better every week and we have plenty more to come."

On Sunday WCC entertained Ickleford to a 40 overs match under the guiding hands of Dave Stevens who decided to field first.

WCC were set a score of 197-6 mainly on the strength of Pursey's 95 not out.

In reply, Ian Winchester rolled back the years with a brightly taken 25 runs. The pair put on 37 for the first wicket that was quickly lifted to 60-3 with a cameo innings from David Dabare (16) before driving over a straight ball. Runs dried up but wickets did not and Wheato succumbed to 84 all out in 26 overs. J. Ross returned figures of 5-2-8-4.
