Redbourn II 173-7 beat Dunstable III 170 all out by three wickets

Two players dominated for Redbourn II in their victory over Dunstable III on Saturday.

Skipper Antony Mauder won the toss and put Dunstable in to bat on a green wicket but the decision appeared to backfire as opener Gypps cut his way to a rapid 45 before he was bowled by Darren Bassill.

The next over Martin Benfield bowled fellow opener Skinner for 20, and another two quick wickets for Bassill pegged Dunstable to 97-4.

Goode (31) played a determined innings to ensure Dunstable had something to defend. However, apart from a fine run out by Jimmy Speirs, it was Bassill who took all the remaining wickets finishing with outstanding figures of 8-60. Dunstable 170 all out in the 52nd over.

In reply Toby Ascroft looked in great touch from the start, pushing singles to rotate the strike as well as putting away the bad balls. Ascroft and Mauder put on 49 for the second wicket and at 87-2 the run chase was comfortable.

Unexpectedly, the rest of the Redbourn line-up failed with no-one else getting into double figures.

Bassill played within himself to allow Ascroft to continue his fine innings and take Redbourn towards victory.

Geoff Bartlett scored the winning runs in the 39th over with Ascroft on 107 not out off 109 balls.
