FORMER Cabinet Minister and Conservative Party Chairman Cecil Parkinson was among the players who took part in Aldwickbury Park Golf Club's annual Charity Cup on Saturday.

The all day event, which featured morning and afternoon golf competitions, a charity auction and evening barbecue, raised more than 5,000 for Central Herts YMCA, of which Lord Parkinson is a patron and the selected charity of club captain Tim Fox.

A total of 115 golfers teed off, with Clare Butterworth taking the honours with a score of 44 points, closely followed by Tony Neary (43 points) and Alan Dunwoodie (42 points).

A signed print of Jack Nicklaus and a James Bond jacket made especially for Roger Moore were among the auction prizes, with a round-the-world airline ticket with Virgin Atlantic also on offer for a hole-in-one.

"It's amazing to have raised so much money for the Central Herts YMCA," said Tim Fox.

"I'm truly grateful to all those who turned out to support me and gave so generously to the charity.
