Adams takes the win for St Albans Striders at Cheshunt

Paul Adams won the first round of the Sunday Cross Country League at Cheshunt

St Albans Striders’ Paul Adams ran at a blistering place to come first in the opening race of the new Sunday Cross Country League at Cheshunt.

Cathal Gallagher was close behind in 14th with Si Fraser in 33rd.

Wendy Walsh was the first female Strider across the line in 116th overall with Magda Bobon in 256th in the 8km race. All-in-all, 15 women represented the club alongside 22 male Striders amongst a large field of almost 500 runners.

Elsewhere Phil Yorke achieved a new six-minute half marathon personal best in Valencia, coming in at one hour 44 minutes 20 seconds.

Graham Smith came 74th and 3rd V40 in the Great South Run in Portsmouth, breaking the one-hour mark in 59:13 over the ten-mile course. Smith was joined by husband-and-wife pair Mike Martin and Michelle Coombs who ran 1:01:18 and 1:37:22 respectively. Also running for St Albans Striders were Diane Hunt in 1:31:18 and Joanne Tang in 1:40:47.

Sebastian Rowe claimed his first ever first-place finish token at Aldenham parkrun, which takes place around the reservoir in the country park near Borehamwood, whilst Gladstone Thompson achieved a new parkrun PB in St Albans, in 21:39.

St Albans Striders is a sociable club for all types of runners which meets inside the Westminster Lodge Athletics Track building at 7pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
