ACTIVE St Albans is the Sport and Physical Activity Network for the city and district of St Albans and has been in operation since early 2008.
It exists to support local organisations such as sports clubs to be able to offer more opportunities for local people to get active.
Active St Albans works closely with other local partners, such as the St Albans Sport & Health Development Team and St Albans City & District Council, to provide a comprehensive support structure for local organisations.
Throughout its existence, Active St Albans has directly supported over 120 local organisations to offer additional provision, resulting in approximately 1,200 more local people becoming more active - a number that's continuing to grow. There is a variety of support offered by Active St Albans.
Active St Albans can help clubs with funding. Almost £35,000 has been distributed to local organisations directly from the network.
They also offer support and advice to organisations submitting bids to other funders.
For clubs looking to increase their membership, Active St Albans has many projects for local people including, 'Get Back Into' which encourages local adults to get active again, or 'Livewire' which is aimed at attracting more five-19 year olds to get active.
Active St Albans can also help coaches and volunteers undertake further training.
A full programme of workshops, attended by more than 100 local people, has been offered this year including; performance nutrition, marketing support, first aid and practical coaching workshops.
The organisation can also help clubs with publicity through it's website and bi-monthly eNews.
Sports clubs can use this to highlight what they do and emphasize any special projects coming up. There is also advice available on ways to market your activity - including, for example, how to access schools and colleges.
Your opinion on any sport or physical activity-related issues is important to Active St Albans.
Active St Albans strives to be 'the local voice for sport and physical activity' and as such looks to get the views of local organisations to ensure your voice is heard.
Groups will also have the chance to find out what others are doing through Active St Albans' forthcoming annual conference.
Organisations can network with others as well as have the chance to get more information on relevant issues.
